Multilingual Support
Unicode (non-techies should read ‘multilingual support’) is somewhat of a computer programming black art. As Julik says, there are only two programming languages that do it well - C# and Java, and you can still mess it up in Java.
So what of multilingual support in Rememberize? Flashcards are perfectly suited to learning new languages, so can Rememberize handle it? Well, I’ve been working on making it work for a little while, but admittedly Rememberize didn’t handle it well at all initially. I’m glad to say that last night some changes were made to Rememberize to allow characters of all shapes and sizes to be used in your cards.
Note that non-English characters should work when used in your cards. That is, you can use non-English characters for the front and reverse sides of your cards, but not for set titles, tags, usernames or passwords. This shouldn’t be a drama, since most language learning will involve your cards, not your username!
Of course, a lot of this multi-lingual support depends on what your computer is capable of. If you can’t see some characters, please ensure that you have those language fonts installed, and that your browser is capable of displaying Unicode characters. If you still get problems, please contact me.
Hopefully we can bring you more and more language updates as Rememberize and the framework it’s built on grows.
