Back From Holiday

Posted in General by Kyle McLuckie on the April 12th, 2007

Well, I just enjoyed a hectic 6 week holiday, mostly in South Africa. I caught up with relatives, saw some beautiful scenery, and didn’t get shot at once! Now, it’s back to rememberizing…

It’s Been A While

Posted in General by Kyle McLuckie on the January 31st, 2007

Sorry, it’s been slow work (actually ‘no work’) on Rememberize over the last few months. My job, holidays, and general business has taken a toll on the time I could spend on Rememberize. It’s started up again, though slowly, and hopefully there’ll be some new things coming soon.

Rememberize.com Beta

Posted in Announcement, General by Kyle McLuckie on the October 17th, 2006

This is a slightly editted version of what appeared on The Long Road to Somewhere:

Tonight, Rememberize.com goes live. In Beta, of course.

Rememberize is a learning tool. At its simplest, it is an online flashcard utility. You can use it to remember all sorts of things - the Periodic Table, NBA Champions, American Presidents. It should be very useful for students, and for those who just want to expand or cement their knowledge of certain subjects.

I, personally, fall into the latter category. I am no longer a student; I’m just interested in learning new things. So I built this online tool so that instead of being tied to my home computer, I could learn wherever I was - at the time I was thinking about using a few minutes of my lunch break at work to go through the cards.

So I built a very basic model. And it worked great. But then I thought about its potential for a community of learners. What if this little tool was expanded, so that everybody could host their flashcards? With a little bit of judicious tagging, I could enable people to find other sets that interested them, new topics that had never crossed their path. And so Rememberize was born.

It is in its very basic stages, and there is so much more functionality that I really want to add to it - I have lots of ideas. For now though, it remains basic, and I’ll incrementally add features as the need, or want, arises. The essentials are all there though; you can create sets, tag them, search them, and learn them, while Rememberize keeps track of your learning progress and tests you accordingly - things you’re good at remembering it’ll leave, while retesting you on the things that you seem to have difficulty with.

As I mentioned, it’s currently in beta. What does this mean? Well, there’ll only be a limited number of users initially. If you do want to register and find that Rememberize is accepting no more participants, please leave your email address so that I can let you know when more space is available. And if you do manage to register as a beta user, I’d like to hear from you as much as possible. I’ve tried making the user interface as neat and self explanatory as possible, but if you spot inconsistencies, possible improvements, or blatant bugs, please contact me (when you are logged in there’s a link in the top right hand corner to report bugs). (NOTE: Rememberize has been tested on Windows and Linux, under Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera, and Konqueror. Sorry, to the Mac users, but I don’t have access to one of your fine machines. Goodness knows I’d love one!)

Even if you are not a registered user, you can still explore all the sets on Rememberize. You might find something interesting! So please, enjoy.
